When you register please be prepared with the following:
Team photo (a team photo or something that represents your team)
Your fundraising goal (how much you would like to raise between sponsorships and online votes)
Your sponsor (If you do not have a sponsor you will be asked to pay the $250 team registration fee)
Your sponsors contact information
Once you register your team then your team photo will link to your own team page. This page will allow you to: Tell your story and track your fundraising. It will display your goal and it will automatically update whenever someone votes. If people would like to donate to your team but they don’t want to donate online, please let us know and we can adjust your total so that it is accurate.
Team Rules and Guidelines:
All dance styles are welcome. Please keep all dance moves, costumes and song selections family friendly. Big Sky Senior Services reserves the right to disqualify a video that it deems inappropriate.
Age: no age limits
Team size: Minimum of three dancers and maximum number of dancers is dependent on space large enough to be compliant with Covid-19 Safety Regulations.
Members: Teams may be all men, all women, men & women mixed, seniors, adults, and children who can perform at the group’s chosen level.
Music Selection-Please choose family friendly music with no profanity. If you are using a tutorial the group may use the music traditional for that dance or pick a different selection of music if they feel it will enhance their performance.
Tutorials- If you would like to use one of the dance tutorials we provide, you can base your entire routine off the tutorial or get creative and add your own flair. To help our judges know what types of dances to anticipate, we ask that you identify which tutorial you are using when you register your team, if you are using a tutorial.
We will accept previously recorded dance routines used for different competitions as long as it meets all the guidelines.
Dances do not have to be performed on a stage, etc. Feel free to use your creativity.
Video Length: The music time limit is 3 min or less. (Edit music and choreography to comply. No penalty for less than three minutes, but penalty for going over the three minute limit – 1 point per judge). You may introduce your team and your reason for supporting Big Sky Senior Services at the end of the video, but please limit the overall video to 4 min.
One routine per group/team.
Continuous Take - You can edit, if you choose, for multiple camera angles. However, be sure the dance is done in one continuous take and not recorded a piece at a time.
Horizontal Shot - Please record on your smart phones horizontally and ensure all dancers can be seen.
Sound - Be sure that your music is near to your recording device, so the sound quality is good.
Quality - Please use High Definition Cameras. Most smart phones fall in that range as long as they are not more than 5 years old. 1080p is the preferred quality.
Submitting your video:
Step One: upload your video to YouTube or another service that you can provide a link for us to access your video.
Video Deadline: Videos can be submitted beginning Feb. 15, 2021. Videos must be submitted by April 23, 2021 (11pm MST)
All dance recordings will be compiled and uploaded by BSSS to our website on May 1st and People’s Choice voting will continue until May 16th.
Judging- 1. Technicality (25 possible points) – Style, Footwork, Ability (difficulty of movement) 2. Presentation (25 possible points) – Poise, Expression, *Costume, Presences, Personality, *Showmanship 3. Execution (25 possible points) – *Precision, Rhythm, Timing, Continuity of movement, *Synchronization 4. *Choreography (25 possible points) – Quality of movement, *Creativity, Originality Definitions Costume – Is the style of dress consistent with the music and/or does the dress compliment the sponsor? Must be tasteful and family appropriate. Flashy okay but, be careful. Showmanship/Enthusiasm/Energy – Is the performance upbeat, does it have attitude, is it graceful, or un? Are the dancers able to project excitement while they perform? Is the attitude consistent with the chosen dance? (i.e. Tango-power & strength, Waltz-flow & smooth movement, Salsa-excitement & flexibility, Western-excitement and fun, etc.) Precision/Execution – How well does the group keep spacing, good posture, hand & foot movements, claps-jumps-stomps-turns together, and dance in time with music. Synchronization/Teamwork - Is the group moving together and keeping in step? Lines and formations should move as one. Choreography – Are the steps/movements of the routine of a planned design? Did the group display variations and creative elements? Creativity/Originality - Does the group display imagination and does the group take the basic pattern to an elevated level?
Awards: 1. A judge panel will award the following and more! 1st place in the Beginner Category 1st place in the Intermediate/Advanced Category Overall Dance Team* Best Costume Most Creative Use of Sponsor Logo
The People’s Choice winner* will be awarded to the team that raises the most money between Sponsors and votes
People’s Choice voting will be open from Feb 15th -May 16th.
Winners will be announced on our website and Facebook page May 18th, 2021
* The People's Choice Award and Overall Dance Award winners team photo and sponsor logos will be featured on a billboard located at Rimrock Rd and North 27th Ave in Billings for the month of June.
Helpful Team Tips
Assign a team captain to register the team, schedule practices, and submit the video.
Determine a fundraising goal as a team and utilize social media to spread the word and gain support. The campaign homepage and your team page can easily be shared by clicking on the share button on the upper right hand corner of the page.
Once you register your team, your team captain will be sent an email link to set up your team web page.
